# AI Portraits

> Generate AI-powered portrait styles using the Fal.ai integration

## AI Portraits Overview

The **AI Portraits** feature uses [Fal.ai](https://fal.ai) to generate artistic portrait styles from customer photos. Customers can choose an AI style, and the app transforms their uploaded photo into that style.

## Setting Up AI Portraits

### Step 1: Get a Fal.ai API Key

1. Go to [fal.ai](https://fal.ai) and create an account.
2. Navigate to your dashboard and generate an API key.
3. Copy the API key — you will need it in the next step.

### Step 2: Add Your API Key in Settings

1. In Photo Frame Customizer, go to **Settings**.
2. Paste your Fal.ai API key into the **Fal.ai API Key** field.
3. Click **Save**.

  Keep your API key secure. Do not share it publicly. The key is stored securely and used only to process AI portrait requests.

### Step 3: Add Portrait Styles

1. Navigate to **AI Portraits** in the sidebar.
2. Click **Add Portrait Style**.
3. Enter a **Style Name** (e.g., "Oil Painting", "Watercolor", "Pencil Sketch").
4. Select the AI model or style preset from the dropdown.
5. Click **Save**.
6. Repeat for each style you want to offer customers.

## How Customers Use AI Portraits

1. The customer opens the frame customizer on your storefront.
2. They upload a photo.
3. They select **AI Portrait** and choose a style.
4. The app sends the image to Fal.ai and returns the transformed portrait.
5. The customer can then apply the portrait to their chosen frame.

  AI portrait generation may take a few seconds depending on the selected style and image size. The feature requires a valid Fal.ai API key with available credits.
